5 on Friday - Baby Food, Vacation, Boots, Oh My!

How is it Friday already?!  This week seemed to fly by...maybe because we weren't cooped up in the house all week.  Can I get an Amen?! Anywho, here's to another Link Up party with the ladies at The Good LifeA. Liz Adventures.  Hello! Happiness. Carolina Charm....

1.  I was running low on some of our staple baby foods for Chase (peas, apples, butternut squash and sweet potatoes) so this was a week to stock up.  While these are some of the easiest foods to make and he seems to love them, I was looking to try some new combos and foods.  I searched online, the baby food aisle and my So Easy Baby Food book for inspiration.  He seems to love the pears, oatmeal and cinnamon combination as well as pears & pineapple in the store bought versions so I thought it was a good place to start.  Now, I thought the pineapple would never work but boy was I wrong!  (I might even make some to add to my pina coladas this summer!)  It cooked up super easy and blended in my food processer like a champ!  While I have to say he is not a fan of straight pineapple he does love it mixed with both pears and bananas.  Win!
The oatmeal presented a little bit of a learning curve.  I bought plain (not quick cooking) oatmeal and cooked it as normal.  From there I added it directly to the pears that were already prepared and blended down.  Well, darn if this wasn't the wrong way to do it.  Bummer!  By adding it to the food processer at this point, the oatmeal never broke down to the right consistency for what Chase needs now.  I made another batch (as well as a batch with apples) but this time I blended the oatmeal on its own first and then added it to the pears or apples.  Much better results this way!  Plus he seems to love them!  Yea!
(On a different note, I use ice cube trays to freeze the food and then bag them up.  So easy to grab a few cubes when he is ready to eat!)

2.  If you are looking for a good (albeit polarizing) book, Gone Girl by Gillian Flynn is for you.  It is entertaining and has lots of "what the heck?!" twists.  The ending being the biggest one of all...and it will leave you with a definite opinion on whether or not Flynn got it right.  I knew it was only a matter of time before it ended up on the big screen, and I couldn't wait.  Then they started announcing the cast and I got more excited.  I mean, who doesn't love them some Ben Affleck and Neil Patrick Harris?!?  And then my Entertainment Weekly arrived last week with the cover article on the movie!  I immediately tore open the magazine and devoured the article....and then, I got super nervous/bummed out that the movie is going to be too different from the book.
I mean what do you think, should I be nervous??
"Even if you’ve already read the novel, you may still be surprised by the movie’s curve balls. Fincher says that the lesson he learned from bringing Stieg Larsson’s hit novel The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo to the screen in 2011 was that “we may have been too beholden to the source material.” And Flynn, a former EW writer who wrote the screenplay, wasn’t afraid to take a buzzsaw to her own novel. “There was something thrilling about taking this piece of work that I’d spent about two years painstakingly putting together with all its eight million LEGO pieces and take a hammer to it and bash it apart and reassemble it into a movie,” she says."
Guess I won't know until I see it.  :)

3.  My husband and I will be celebrating 5 years of wedded bliss this May, and since our married years have been a little hectic (new jobs, 2 home moves, 2 babies...) we decided the best way to celebrate would be a beach get-away for just the 2 of us.  I am thrilled to be able to take the time away with just my hubby and relax with no one demanding ANYTHING of me for 5 days!  We are just in the beginning stages of planning but I can already picture myself on the beach with a cold drink in my hand.
I can almost feel the sand on my toes!

4. As a stay at home mom, I don't get much me time to shop for new clothes or anything alone for that matter.  So when I found the fun blog Pinterest Told Me To, I became obsessed pretty excited.  Shaeffer finds the cutest clothes (with Pinterest inspiration, of course) and then goes one step further, and finds them online.  The best part?  She always provides links and her recommendations for sizes and styling!  I have bought a few items she recommended (jeans, leggings, scarves) but I now I have decided I need to get some rain boots.

I mean, the girl has like 3 pairs of the Hunter rain boots so you know they are a must have staple to your closet.  Unfortunately, I think my hubby may have a coronary if I come home with $150 rain boots, no matter how must have I think they may be!  But seriously, how annoying is it to have the hem of your pants get all gross and wet in the rain?!?  Anyway, I feel it may be a losing battle for me so I am now on the hunt for a cheaper version while I work on convincing him the Hunter boots will be so worth the price tag!

5. Lastly, my Erin Condren planner has shipped and is scheduled to deliver tomorrow!!!  Did you hear my squeal of delight?!?!?  I am so overly excited to get my hands on it so I can start adding this year's plans to it.  I may or may not have made my own version of the label stickers they offer and I am itching to see how they work out!  Come on Saturday!

Have a fabulous Friday!
